New Jesse Stuart Foundation print honors Dr. Thomas D. Clark

A new, full-color print entitled "Kentucky's Thomas D. Clark" has been released by the Jesse Stuart Foundation in honor of Kentucky's historian laureate for life.

The first print of the original painting by Jim Marsh of Ashland was presented to Dr. Clark at the recent Kentucky History Awards Dinner in Frankfort.

Dr. James M. Gifford, CEO and senior editor of the Jesse Stuart Foundation, said of the 100-year-old scholar-historian:

"Jesse Stuart boldly proclaimed in his world-famous poem 'Kentucky Is My Land' if the United States could be called a body, then Kentucky would be called its heart. He didn't define the heart of Kentucky but we know today that it is Tom Clark."

Dr. Gifford said the print was created to demonstrate the Foundation's profound respect for Dr. Clark, one of its most popular authors. A print also was presented to Kent Whitworth, executive director of the Kentucky Historical Society.

Marsh, a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, enjoyed a long career with Ashland, Inc. and retired as manager of creative services. Since retirement, he has been the JSF's chief book designer. His illustrations and book covers adorn JSF books which can be found in homes and libraries all across America.

The 15x17 prints depicting Clark with the Kentucky State Capitol in the background are available at a price of $20 by mail, by phone, online at www.jsfbooks.com or in person at the JSF offices in Ashland and at the Kentucky History Center in Frankfort.
