JSF making progress toward gift challenge

ASHLAND, Ky. (Dec. 6, 2002) -- Friends of the Jesse Stuart Foundation are responding generously to a $50,000 challenge gift from board members Carl and Buzzy Leming of Edgewood, according to Dr. James M. Gifford, chief executive officer and senior editor of the JSF.

Leming, a retired airline pilot and his wife, a community activist, were JSF volunteers for several years before being appointed to the Board of Directors in 1997. They are matching building fund gifts on a dollar for dollar basis to a maximum of $50,000.

"We have passed the halfway point and are optimistic that the goal will be achieved in 2003," Gifford said. "The Lemings are wonderful supporters and they know that their gift is critical to our future as we work to reduce our debt from the purchase of this beautiful, historic building that has become our permanent home."

The JSF acquired the former Ashland Post Office building in November 2000. The Foundation had occupied Ashland, Inc., office space since relocating to Ashland in 1985.
