JSF reprinting Eckert's "Winning of America" books
ASHLAND, Ky. (Nov. 1, 2001) - The Jesse Stuart Foundation, Inc., is reprinting the popular "The Winning of America" series of six major books by acclaimed historian Allan W. Eckert, it was announced today by Judy B. Thomas, chair of the JSF Board of Directors.
The first of the reprinted series of historical narratives, "The Frontiersman", is being released for public sale immediately in new, redesigned hardcover and softcover editions. Following in 2002 will be "The Wilderness Empire" and "The Conquerors" with "The Wilderness War" coming in 2003, "Gateway to Empire" in 2004 and "Twilight of Empire" in 2005.
"We are delighted to have this opportunity to republish these wonderful books, all of which are out of print, for a new generation of readers," Thomas said. "This is a major achievement for a regional press and we are deeply grateful for Mr. Eckert's confidence in the Jesse Stuart Foundation."
Original publication dates of the books include "The Frontiersman" (1967), "Wilderness Empire" (1968), "The Conquerors" (1970), "The Wilderness War" (1975), "Gateway to Empire" (1982), and "Twilight of Empire" (1988).
Eckert, who has published 39 books and been nominated seven times for the Pulitzer Price in literature, is the author of "Tecumseh", one of America's most popular and enduring outdoor historical dramas. He has won several major writing awards, including an Emmy for television scripts and a Newbery Honor Book Award.
Ms. Thomas said she is hopeful that other Eckert titles will become available to the JSF over the next few years.
