David R. Palmore receives JSF board member award

ASHLAND, Ky. (Dec 15, 2003) - David R. Palmore of Erlanger, Ky., a public school educator with a passion for Kentucky literature, is the 2003 winner of the Judy B. Thomas Outstanding Board Member Award at the Jesse Stuart Foundation, Inc.

Palmore, principal of Arnett Elementary School in Erlanger, was recognized by the JSF Board of Directors for compiling and editing the recently-published "New Harvest: Forgotten Stories of Kentucky's Jesse Stuart", the first new anthology of Stuart short stories in nearly 30 years.

"David's outstanding work in selecting and editing these wonderful short stories over a three-year period is creating new generations of fans for Jesse Stuart," said Dr. James M. Gifford, the JSF's senior editor and CEO. "The book has received excellent reviews and is becoming one of our top selling titles. With this reception of this book and the meticulous research behind it, David has truly distinguished himself as a Stuart scholar."

A member of the JSF board since 1998, Palmore serves on the board's editorial committee. He is the second recipient of the Thomas Award, named for Judy B. Thomas, who served 17 years as board chair. The first award was presented to Carl and Buzzy Leming of Edgewood, Ky.
