Stephenson elected JSF vice chair, Burner named treasurer
ASHLAND, Ky. (Dec 8, 2003) - Jane B. Stephenson of Lexington, Ky., Appalachian director of The Steele-Reese Foundation, has been elected vice chair of the Board of Directors of the Jesse Stuart Foundation, Inc., a non-profit, regional publishing house based in Ashland.
Founder of the New Opportunity School for Women at Berea, the former First Lady of Berea College is the author of "Courageous Paths: Stories of Nine Appalachian Women." She was appointed to the JSF board in 2002.
"We are delighted to have Jane Stephenson become an officer in our organization," said Keith Kappes, JSF board chair. "She has been recognized for her leadership in women's issues and as a successful author with strong ties to this region."
In other action, Allen Burner, president of First Federal Bank of Savings of Ashland, was appointed to the Board of Directors and elected treasurer. Kappes, a vice president of Morehead State University, was reappointed to the board and reelected as chair. Dr. James M. Gifford of Ashland was reelected board secretary. Judy B. Thomas of Greenup, Ky., was reappointed to the Executive Committee.
Dr. Allan Dittmer, professor of education at the University of Louisville, was appointed to the board. Reappointed were Harvey and Mae Dixon of Ormond Beach, Fla., Carl and Buzzy Leming of Edgewood, Ky., Doris Price of Ashland, Ky., and Drs. Hal Blythe and Charlie Sweet of Eastern Kentucky University,
