Greenup county native Lee Pennington and other Kentucky authors will sign their books at the Jesse Stuart Foundation, 4440 13th Street in Ashland, on Saturday, December 9, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public and a great opportunity to purchase holiday gifts.
Pennington, the author of 20 books and the former Poet Laureate of Kentucky, will present two new books of poetry, “Appalachian Newground” and “Daughter of Leda.” “Appalachian Newground” recognizes and honors his Greenup County homeland.
Bob Thompson, a writer, storyteller and engineer, will sign his new collection of stories, “Hitchhiker: Stories from the Kentucky Homefront.” Many of these stories were born from conversations he heard as a boy in his Granny’s country story in McCracken County. This collection includes coming-of-age stories, family stories, and some true accounts of unsolved murders and mysteries.
James B. Goode will sign “Kentucky’s Literary Landscape,” a new book that profiles the 29 authors inducted into the Kentucky Writers Hall of Fame, 2013-2017.
Two popular books of special interest to residents of Ashland and Boyd County are Dr. Robert Emerson French’s “Prepare to Meet Me in Heaven,” the story of Gertrude Ramey and the Ramey Children’s Home, and Bill Martin’s “Ashland Airport: Eastern Kentucky’s Forgotten Field.”
Judge John David Preston will present a number of history books and genealogical books that focus on the Big Sandy Valley of eastern Kentucky.
JSF author and Board member David Palmore will sign “New Harvest,” his collection of forgotten Jesse Stuart short stories. He will also sign on other rare Stuart books he introduced as reprints.
Local author and journalist Carrie Stambaugh will sign “Hiking Kentucky: A Guide to 80 of Kentucky’s Greatest Hiking Adventures.”
Other JSF authors available to sign on their books and stories will include Edwina Pendarvis, James M. Gifford, Brenda Evans, Judith Kidwell, Ruby Miller, Lew Nicholls, and Sam Piatt.
In addition, the JSF Bookstore & Appalachian Gift Shop, which offers signed books by Allan W. Eckert, Jesse Stuart, Billy C. Clark, and other famous Kentucky and Appalachian authors, will be open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on the day of the book signing.
