Jesse the Bookcat has been my cheerful assistant for almost twenty years. A year ago, her vet diagnosed a dangerous, aggressive cancer on the side of her face. He expected the cancer to quickly spread to her bones and organs and kill her in 2-3 months. I recently took Jesse back to the vet and he said, much to his surprise, the cancer had not spread. Jesse can no longer eat hard foods. She can only consume soft foods that look like pudding or very soft treats, but she is still very alert and sometimes playful, and she has a good quality of life for a twenty-year-old cat.
